Smart Grid

- connecting green energy to people

Denmark holds a strong international position within Smart Grids. A number of factors act in favour of Denmark and gives the industry a unique development potential within the Smart Grid area.

Strongholds at a glance:

  • System knowledge (distribution and transmission),
  • Smart Grid components
  • Electrical Vehicles
  • Energy markets (structure, procedures, trading, test and operation tools)
  • ICT (communications elements active in a Smart Grid),
  • Best conditions for user-centered development

Denmark has a unique energy system with a very high share of renewable energy. 22% of the Danish energy consumption is based on renewables today and the aim is Denmark being fossil fuel free by 2050. This makes the energy system very suited as a platform for development of future Smart Grid technologies.

In Denmark you find knowledge, data and measurements that are crucial to development of Smart Grid Technologies and we are experts in the energy storage technologies needed to make the smart grid work. Further, we have a number of practical experiences regarding the challenges that need to be solved.

Denmark’s demonstration activities such as Energinet.dk’s cell project, the EV integration project EDISON and the EU-financed EcoGrid have placed Denmark at the very forefront when it comes to demonstration activities.
