4 new regional IT centres to be established

Danish government sponsors new IT competence centres in Odense, Aalborg, Aarhus and Sønderborg

Computerworld reports today that half of the government's grant for IT efforts in Jutland and Funen will go to establishing four new IT competence centres to be located at Odense on the island of Funen, and Aalborg, Aarhus and Sønderborg in Jutland. The respective county councils will also collectively invest an equivalent sum, making a total of DKK 175 million available over the next 4 years.

Commenting on the initiative, Helger Sander, Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation, said that there are very strong IT environments in Jutland and Funen, and emphasised the importance of exploiting knowledge to the benefit of more companies. The other half of the government's grant will be used to ensure that the regional IT knowledge reaches out to companies which are not located close to universities or associated institutions through the formation of an "IT corridor" for the effective transfer of knowledge.
