CMC Biotech gets 36 million dollar cash injection

CMC Biotech to build new facilities following biggest private investment deal of recent years

Daily broadsheet Jyllands-Posten reports today that the one year old company CMC Biotech is to get a DKK 300 million (USD 36 million) cash injection in one of the biggest private financing deals of recent years. The fresh capital, from a consortium including venture companies Bankinvest and European Equity Partner, will be used to build production facilities and a new HQ building in the greater Copenhagen area. 100 new jobs will be created as a result.

The testing and production facilities will be used for pilot production on a contract basis of promising new biologics for other biopharmaceutical companies. The idea is that a customer can supply a therapeutic protein or molecule that forms the active ingredient of a potential new drug, which CMC Biotech can then upscale to sufficient production amounts to enable clinical testing. In the longer term CMC Biotech plans to produce biologics on a commercial scale.
