Carlsberg to create biotech research fund

Danish brewery Carlsberg plans to establish DKK 500 million biotech research fund

According to national daily newspaper Jyllands-Posten, Denmark's world renowned brewery Carlsberg A/S is set to approve plans for establishing a venture capital fund of at least DKK 500 million (USD 60 million). External investors with industrial and financial competence will also be invited to participate. In addition to the fund, Carlsberg plans to build a biotech research park on its own manufacturing premises in Copenhagen.

 

Carlsberg has already created a biotech subsidiary Carlsberg BioIncubator, as well as its first actual biotech company Combio, which currently has 25 employees and is ready to take on bigger laboratory-based research tasks.
