Major IT conference opens in Copenhagen on Monday

3,000 investors, researchers and politicians will attend IST 2002 at Bella Center 4 – 6 November

The international IT conference and exhibition "IST 2002 – Partnerships for the future" opens at Copenhagen's Bella Center on Monday next week. The 3 day event, which will be opened by the Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation, takes place shortly before the starting date for applications to the EU under the new IST (Information Society Technologies) programme, which will award project funds of approximately DKK 27 billion (USD 3.5 billion). At the conference the new IST programme will be presented in detail, and it will also be possible to enter into direct dialogue with the EU programme's administrators.

IST 2002 is primarily a networking event. It provides opportunities for the creation of project groups to propose R&D projects under the new programme. More than 3,000 investors, researchers and politicians from the whole of Europe will be attending the conference. IST 2002 will run 36 IT workshops, and a 4,500 sq m exhibition will present results from European R&D projects. 20 of Denmark's most innovative IT projects will be included.
