Multimillion state investment for stem cell research centre in Denmark

Daily broadsheet Jyllands-Posten reports that the National Health Research Council is donating DKK 23.6 million (USD 2.8 million) to establish a Danish Stem Cell Research Centre. A five year project will investigate stem cells from several organs of the body in order to characterise and quantify them, with a view to creating new treatments for diseases such as diabetes through transplantation techniques. The initiative, which involves a research network comprising four Danish Universities and two private companies, is seen as a strong indication that Denmark aims to take a leading role in European stem cell research.
