Novozymes acquires US company George A. Jeffreys Inc. for undisclosed sum

Novozymes, the world's leading producer, has announced the acquisition for an undisclosed sum of Virginia-based George A. Jeffreys, Inc., a company of moderate size that researches, produces and sells naturally-occurring microorganisms and enzymes. The acquisition by the Danish company follows hot on the heels of the purchase of Sweden-based BioGaia Fermentation, reported in our news on Monday this week.

The acquisition of George A. Jeffreys aims to strengthen Novozymes’ position within industrial microorganisms. The company will be integrated into Novozymes Biologicals, acquired by Novozymes in July 2001. Like Novozymes, George A. Jeffreys produces and sells environmentally friendly products. The company’s key business areas are microorganisms and enzymes for maintenance of septic tanks, and microorganisms and enzymes for animal feed. For many years Novozymes has been George A. Jeffreys’ preferred enzyme supplier.
