Penell A/S wins US contract to develop Bluetooth medical device  

Penell signs agreement with Nonin Medical Inc to develop Bluetooth-enabled blood oxygen meter

Nonin Medical, Inc., developer and manufacturer of innovative medical monitoring technologies, has entered an agreement with Penell A/S, a leading Danish supplier of wireless solutions for medical devices. The two companies will develop the next generation in wireless blood oxygen monitoring using Bluetooth technology, that will enable patients to walk around or shift positions in bed without being restricted by a cable.


Penell believes Bluetooth wireless technology is set to become commonly used in healthcare and medical devices, that will be able to operate seamlessly with PDAs, PCs, cellular phones and wireless networks based on Bluetooth. Penell A/S is an independent subsidiary of RTX Telecom A/S, which has achieved a leading position internationally in the development and design of advanced wireless communications and information technologies. Minneapolis-based Nonin Medical specialises in the design and manufacture of physiological monitoring solutions, and distributes its products in more than 125 countries.
