Technical University of Denmark in merger

DTU has merged with Hørsholm Science Park to secure a ranking among Europe's best technical universities

The Technical University of Denmark (DTU) and Hørsholm Science Park have merged, reports Berlingske Tidende today. One of the principal reasons behind the initiative is to secure DTU a top 10 ranking among Europe's technical universities. Other science parks are also being invited to participate, as according to DTU, a critical mass has to be achieved in order to secure cooperation with other European universities and thereby remain competitive in a fast moving technological world.

DTU's physical presence in Copenhagen gives it a natural part to play in fostering the Øresund region as a new powerhouse for research, the development of production facilities and educational provision. The platform for this drive comprises the region's 11 universities, 5 science parks and a heavy concentration of both established and start-up companies. DTU has 6000 students preparing for Bachelor and Masters degrees, 600 PhD students and takes 400 foreign students a year on English-taught courses.
