US buyer interest in Maersk Medical rumoured

US giant Medtronics could be lining up to acquire Maersk Medical from A.P. Møller

Berlingske Tidende Online has reported that following claimed contact between US company Medtronics and A.P. Møller, the US mega-group looks like an obvious buyer for Maersk Medical, which is currently up for sale. Danish medical products company Coloplast is also said to be in the frame. Finance house Carnegie is acting as broker between AP Møller and interested buyers. The price tag is rumoured to be in the region of DKK 2 – 3 billion.

Medtronics, which last year generated a turnover of more than USD 5.5 billion, is a major purchaser of plastic catheters for insulin infusion that Maersk Medical manufactures at a 7000 sq m. production and warehousing facility on Sjælland. Industry observers consider this to be a main source of buyer interest for Medtronics.
