The IT sector in the Øresund Region is in continuous growth, and remains the largest IT resource concentration in Scandinavia.

New research carried out for the Øresund IT Academy shows that the IT sector in the Øresund Region is in continuous growth and now has a workforce of more than 104,000 people, making it the largest IT resource concentration in Scandinavia. The Øresund region has approximately 460 IT researchers and 12,000 companies generating a turnover of DKK 167 billion (USD 24 billion). Research-heavy companies are well represented, with 104 companies in the Science Parks Ideon, Symbion and CAT. The news is reported by netposten.dk.

The analysis, conducted by Roskilde University, shows that 80% are employed on the Danish side of the Øresund bridge, and 20% are employed in Skåne (southern region of Sweden). However growth during 1995-2000 has been higher on the Swedish side (58%) than the Danish side (38%). “It is natural that a capital attracts more companies, but Skåne offers a good launch pad for the Swedish market” says Peter Höjerback, director of Øresund IT Academy. Currently 171 Swedish IT companies have been established on the Danish side of Øresund while 18 Danish IT companies have been established in Sweden.
