Aalborg University in 4G research project with Samsung

With a budget of DKK 26.8 million Aalborg University is heading a new research project within 4G mobile telephony sponsored by Samsung

With the new research project, Aalborg University will be the first university in the world with a fully equipped and functional 4G research lab. The name of the project is Hi-SWIFT-BAY (High-Speed-Wireless transceivers for Future Access Everywhere).

The primary targets of the project are to develop:
 - a new and complete radio system based on high speed transmission
 - a new antenna concept (Multiple-input, multiple output - MIMO)

The challenge is to find a better way to use bandwidth, to expand the net and thereby make it more flexible.

Korea based Samsung has so far granted DKK 26.8 million (USD 4.5 million) over a three year period to the project. According to Professor Ramjee Prasad who will be heading the project, Samsung has already promised further research funds if expectations are met.
