Danish biotech company BioImage has been granted a US patent for a method of detecting protein translocation

The Danish biotech company BioImage has been granted a US patent for a method of detecting protein translocation in cells by means of a luminous protein (green fluorescent protein, GFP) fused to the target protein. The technology makes it possible to follow protein translocation in real time in living cells. This is the cornerstone of BioImage's drug discovery programme; the company has pioneered the concept of modulating protein translocation as a new mode of action for disease therapy. BioImage has already licensed its technology to companies in the biotech and pharmaceutical industries, and is looking for further licensees through technology access partnerships.

BioImage employs around 50 people at its research facility in Copenhagen and is financially supported by international investors including Apax Partners, Abingworth Management Ltd and Novo A/S. Its current projects include discovering drug candidates for the treatment of cancer, as well as inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. The news is reported by biotechdenmark.dk
