Robust regional efforts are under way in northern Jutland to make Denmark a centre for Intelligent Transport Systems, known in the car trade as ITS. These systems are especially targeted for applications in cars, although they have IT relevance for traffic in general. Denmark's objective is to create a cluster of strongly innovative companies which will develop equipment and IT systems which the cars of the future are expected to feature in abundance.

A year ago the umbrella and networking organisation ITS NorthDenmark was established to promote the development of ITS. Aalborg University is the pivotal point for the network which currently comprises 15 public and private sector companies including LH Comlog, Sonofon, RTX Telecom and Geovision.

The network is a member of the European ITS organisation ERTICO, and Aalborg has been chosen as the venue for the ITS congress in 2007. Meanwhile, in December this year ITS is hosting a seminar in Aalborg where participants from European industries will present their ITS developments and applications to Chinese stakeholders. The news is reported by financial newspaper Børsen.
