2003.12.05
The Finnish venture company is currently considering investing in up to 6 potential biotech companies

Finnish venture capital BioFund plans to make more investments in biotech companies in Medicon Valley. Currently the company is looking at half a dozen investment opportunities. President and partner in BioFund Erkki Pekkarinen does not want to identify the companies, but he is certain that the fund's investments in Medicon Valley will increase in the coming years.

BioFund has an office in Copenhagen and has previously invested in Danish biotech companies including Exiqon, Egalet and Santaris. BioFund's latest venture fund, BioFund Ventures III, was established in 2001 and has almost 80% of the invested capital remaining, corresponding to DKK 492 million (USD 78.7 million). According to Pekkarinen, around half of this amount will be invested in Finnish, Nordic and European biotech over the next two years. The news was reported by BiotechDenmark online.
