MMS mobile phones prove a big hit with Danes

MMS and digital camera phones are set to drive record sales in a country where 80% already have a mobile

New figures from the Mobile Tele Industry (Mobiltelebranchen) in Denmark show that sales of mobile telephones in Q2 are 15-20% higher compared with the same period last year. On the basis of this trend, sales of mobile telephones are predicted to set a new record – even though 8 out of 10 Danes already own one. According to the Chairman of the Mobile Tele Industry Peer Kølendorf, the surge in sales is largely due to a price war among teleoperators as well as the deluge of new services and product innovations being offered to the techno-hungry Danes.

Mobile telephones with MMS (Multimedia Message Service – enabling transmission of text, pictures and audio) as well as phones with a built-in digital camera are predictably the big sellers. TDC, the largest telecompany in Denmark, has recently revealed that more than 130,000 of its customers already have a mobile telephone with a built-in camera. The news is reported by national broadsheet Jyllands- Posten.
