New internet portal to streamline business administration launched today

Virk.dk is the result of a wide-ranging partnership between public and private sectors to bring all the services of the state online

A new internet portal designed to help businesses in Denmark streamline their administrative tasks and communication with the public sector is launched today. Virk.dk brings all the services of the state online, and regional and local authorities will be linked to the system in the near future.

Virk.dk provides information from more than 135 commercially-oriented public sector websites, and more than 90 commercial and internet services from a range of public authorities – all in one place. The idea behind Virk.dk is to standardise and digitalise much of the administration work which is currently processed manually. If the portal's full potential is realised, Danish businesses will be able to save upwards of DKK 900 million (USD 133 million) over 3 years.

The functions offered by Virk.dk include digital signatures, a search engine able to scan information and services across traditional private/public sector boundaries, a "calendar agent" of business-relevant public sector events to flag registration and payment dates, electronic sick pay claim forms and a secure e-mail box which can only be opened with a personal digital key.
