New turnover records for advertising on the internet

Data from the Association of Danish Internet Media shows record increases in turnover on the internet in Q4 2002 and for the year as a whole

The Association of Danish Internet Media (FDIM) has released new numbers for advertising turnover on the internet in Denmark showing that new records were set in Q4 2002 as well as for the year as a whole. Q4 turnover amounted to DKK 77.6 million (USD 11.3 million) and for 2002 in total it reached DKK 243 million (USD 35 million), the latter corresponding to a 36% increase on 2001. According to the chairman of FDIM the growth was due to a substantial increase in the amount of time Danes spent on the internet, supplemented by an increase in broadband connections.

Figures from the Central Statistical Office show that more than 65% of Danes have access to the internet from home compared with 33% in 1999, and there are now more than 300,000 ADSL subscribers, a tenfold increase in 2 years. The advertising turnover is based on data collected from FDIM’s membership companies which include all the large internet media in Denmark. The numbers include the net turnover on banner advertisements and sponsorships (fixed graphic elements on the site) but exclude classified advertisements, job databases and user payments.
