Nordic region is world's leading IT zone

According to new research, ICT in the Nordic region leads the world in proliferation terms

The Central Statistical Office together with its Nordic sister organisations have been researching the proliferation of information and communication technology (ICT) in the Nordic lands (Scandinavia plus Finland and Iceland). Their conclusion is that the Nordic region is the world's leader in this field, writes the weekly newsletter A4. In 2000 close on 50% of Scandinavian households had internet access, a tad ahead of the US and UK, and a long way ahead of Germany and France which recorded 16% and 12% respectively.

Denmark has a particularly good spread of internet access across all age groups and many households have broadband connections. Sweden leads the way in IT integration of the workplace, with 45% of Swedish workers using a computer. The comparative figure for Denmark is 37%.
