Samsung places major battery order with Danionics

Danionics share price rockets as doubts over the company's ability to survive are answered with a big order for Samsung laptops

South Korean electronics giant Samsung has placed an order with the Danish battery manufacturer Danionics to develop and supply new batteries to Samsung's Notebook range of laptops. Deliveries are due to start before the new year and according to Danionics sales and development manager Peter Høgh Petersen, it is the first time the company will be selling polymer batteries in large quantities.

On release of the news Friday, Danionics share price rocketed 25% to become the day's top performer on the Copenhagen Stock Exchange. The order comes as a breath of fresh air to the company, and answers doubts expressed by several market analysts earlier this year about the company's ability to survive. Peter Høgh Petersen says that after this order the worries surrounding Danionics' commitment to polymer batteries have finally been dispelled. The news is reported by financial daily newspaper Børsen online.
