A trade delegation of 16 US companies from the healthcare and biotechnology sector visited Copenhagen yesterday. According to the US ambassador in Denmark Stuart Bernstein, the principal attraction factor is Medicon Valley, the rapidly growing biotech cluster zone which geographically spans the Øresund Bridge linking Denmark and Sweden. In a relatively short period of time, Medicon Valley has become the 4th largest biotech cluster in Europe measured on the number of drugs under development.

Stuart Bernstein commented to the financial daily newspaper Børsen that US companies have considerably increased their investments in Denmark. Intel has acquired Giga, Microsoft has acquired Navision and the biotechnology company Biogen is about to establish its first production facilities outside the US in Hillerød, north of Copenhagen (plant construction activities are due to commence 27 March - Ed).
