Alight Technologies receives investment for launch of its first product

The Copenhagen based company receives a DKK 16 mn investment to launch special lens for lasers used in optical networks

Alight Technologies has received DKK 16 mn (USD 2.6 mn) from existing investors DTU Innovation and the Danish Fund for Industrial Growth, plus a new investor, Innfond. Alight Technologies has spent the last two years completing the development of its first product, a special lens for Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Lasers (VCSELs). These lasers currently dominate the market for optical transfer of information in local networks. With the new lens, the effect of VCSELs is increased tenfold so that information can be transferred over much longer distances through fibre optic cables – up to 40 km compared to the current maximum of 500 - 600 metres.

The investment will be used to prepare the new product for launch in 2005. John Østergaard, managing director of Alight Technologies, says he is expecting to achieve multimillion sales in a short period following the market introduction. The company is currently in contact with a number of potential customers in Asia, USA and Europe. The news is reported by Erhvervsbladet.

Alight Technologies is based in Farum north of Copenhagen. It was founded in 2002 as a spin-off of the Technical University of Denmark.
