The British government has entered a collaboration agreement with the Øresund region biotech industry, Medicon Valley, to increase exchange of knowledge and capital. Lord Sainsbury, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Science and Innovation, says the agreement is the first of its kind in Europe. Great Britain has a similar collaboration with the state of Texas, which has delivered good results.

Lord Sainsbury was the keynote speaker Tuesday at the largest biotech conference in the Nordic region, Biotech Forum, held at Bella Center, Copenhagen. Financial daily newspaper Børsen reports Lord Sainsbury as saying that he sees great opportunities in a collaboration with the Øresund region, which offers first class research, and that regarding the innovation race with particularly the US, the focus must not be on country borders but on the development of competence centres.
