Concentration on pervasive computing benefits Aarhus

Aarhus has the highest proportion of IT jobs in the total corporate sector compared to other cities due to its concentration on pervasive computing

Figures from Aarhus School of Business show that Aarhus in Jutland has the highest proportion of IT jobs in relation to total corporate sector employment. The IT sector's proportion of employment is 11.3%, compared to 10.5% in the capital Copenhagen and just under 8% in Aalborg in northern Jutland.

According to the weekly newsletter Mandag Morgen (Monday Morning) which reports the news, the reason why Aarhus has created more IT jobs is due to its concentration on pervasive computing, a technology expected to become the third wave in IT after the PC and the Internet.

The IT cluster area of Katrinebjerg in Aarhus recently won a competition against other European IT centres to lead a prestigious DKK 90 million (USD 14.4 million) project in pervasive computing named PalCom, which is expected to create several new jobs in the short term. The aim of PalCom is to create a platform for communication between technologies such as mobile phones, televisions, cars and measurement devices.
