Europe's largest CD-ROM manufacturer acquires Danish CD Factory

Germany's ODS acquires the Danish competitor CD Factory for an undisclosed sum

Germany's ODS, Europe's largest manufacturer of CD-ROMs and DVDs, has acquired the Danish competitor CD Factory for an undisclosed sum. With the acquisition of 51% of the shares of CD Factory, ODS aims to increase its Scandinavian market share to 33% before 2007. According to ODS, expansion on the Scandinavian market will involve a general price reduction of 30%.

Wilhelm F. Mittrich, managing director of ODS says the company has invested more than DKK 1 bn (USD 160 mn) in its production plant, resulting in economies of scale so that prices can be markedly reduced. ODS has spent the last three years expanding its sales in the UK where revenues are now around DKK 500 mn (USD 80 mn) annually. The news is reported by financial newspaper Børsen online.
