GPRS is booming in Denmark

The two largest mobile phone companies in Denmark, TDC and Sonofon, are both seeing explosive growth in the use of the mobile data technology GPRS

The two largest mobile phone companies in Denmark, TDC and Sonofon, are both seeing explosive growth in the use of the mobile data technology GPRS (General Packet Radio Service). TDC registered a fivefold increase in the amount of mobile data sent via GPRS in 2003, while Sonofon has had similar growth since the turn of the year.

Both TDC and Sonfon say that a good part of the increased use is due to their respective content portals Fly and E-go, which offer services such as news, dating, ringing tones, route descriptions and games. For TDC it is however still the corporate sector which has the highest share of data consumption. The IT Industry Association expects that around 1.6 million mobile phones will be sold in Denmark this year, of which the vast majority have GPRS and a colour screen. The news is reported by Computerworld online.
