Kirk Telecom in research collaboration with the University of Aarhus

The Danish company has entered a DKK 12 mn research project with the University of Aarhus to develop traceable phones

Kirk Telecom has entered a DKK 12 mn (USD 1.9 mn) research project with the University of Aarhus. The project is financed by Kirk Telecom and public funds on a 50/50 basis. The aim is to develop traceability for Kirk Telecom's wireless DECT (Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunication) phones. University researchers and staff from Kirk Telecom will collaborate at the new Project Hotel in the developing IT district of Katrinebjerg, Aarhus.

Erik Stridbæk, technical director of Kirk Telecom says that if DECT phones can be made traceable with high accuracy, they can for example be used for workplace safety equipment in case of an accident where a person needs to be found.

Kirk Telecom develops, manufacturers and markets wireless communication solutions worldwide. Product development, design, testing and sales take place at the headquarters in Horsens while all production is carried out in China. In 2003/2004, Kirk Telecom generated revenues of DKK 193 mn (USD 31 mn). The news is reported by financial newspaper Børsen online.
