The Scandinavian airline and Connexion will offer passengers between Seattle and Copenhagen wireless internet access from December

Scandinavian Airline SAS in conjunction with Boeing company Connexion will offer passengers between Seattle and Copenhagen wireless internet access from December. The wireless network of the type 802.11b, also known as Wi-Fi, are planned to be installed in three aircraft by Connexion which will also operate the network. The speed will be 20MB/s and passengers will pay around DKK 185 per flight to get access to the net.

SAS engineer Henrik Jørgensen says the Seattle route has been chosen as SAS' first route for wireless internet access in the hope that some of its large IT customers including Microsoft will appreciate the new service. Microsoft Business Solutions in Vedbæk north of Copenhagen is the largest Microsoft centre for software development outside the US. It is planned that 11 of SAS' Airbus aircraft will have wireless internet access in operation by summer 2005. The news is reported by Computerworld online.
