Telecompany 3 reaches 50,000 customers

The first telecompany in Denmark offering 3G telephony now has more than 50,000 customers compared to just 3,424 at the turn of the year

Telecompany 3, the first in Denmark offering 3G telephony with high speed mobile access, yesterday revealed that it has now passed the 50,000 customer mark. 3 was launched on the Danish market in October 2003, and at the turn of the year had 3,425 customers. Jesper Weng, managing director of 3 is very satisfied with the achievement, but does not expect the same growth rate in H2.

3 aims to provide 3G coverage in all Danish towns with more than 5,000 people by the end of 2004. In line with the 3G net growth and customer assurance against 'holes' by enabling 3G phones to use the ordinary mobile net, Jesper Weng's vision is that customers can use high-speed mobile broadband everywhere instead of ADSL broadband connections. The news is reported by national newspaper Berlingske Tidende online.

3 is owned by industrial group Hutchison Whampoa (60%) and the Swedish Wallenberg family’s investment company Investor AB (40%). In Denmark 3 is headquartered in Copenhagen and employs 220 people. Danish 3 is a member of the international 3 group which is operating in seven countries including Denmark.
