Entrepreneurial company Guardia based north of Copenhagen, has been selected as a nominee for the European Information Society Technologies Prize for its work with 3D recognition. The European IST Prize is an award for groundbreaking products that represent the best of European innovation in information society technology. The nominees complete a thorough and highly competitive evaluation procedure. Three winners out of 66 nominees will be selected in March 2006.

Guardia has invented and patented a 3D and infrared face recognition system which provides reliable identification of individuals. The system has been developed to meet the growing need for biometric products and solutions across security markets for example in airports and banks. The infrared system makes it possible to see blood vessels, contact lenses and a broken nose, features which can help identify people who may otherwise look similar.

The biometric fledgling recently presented its product at the ASIS International 2005 Exhibition in Orlando, USA, the world's largest security fair, where there was plenty of interest from US visitors. Guardia is currently looking for investors who can help boost the company's liquidity. So far the firm has received DKK 2.5 million (USD 400,000) in capital from private investors. The news was reported by Erhvervsbladet.
