British investment fund Montagu Private Equity has acquired Leo Animal Health, a subsidiary of the Danish pharmaceutical company Leo Pharma, for an undisclosed sum. According to national broadsheet Jyllands-Posten which reports the news, the price is "upwards of DKK 500 mn [USD 90 mn]". In 2004, LEO Animal Health generated sales of approx. DKK 200 mn (USD 36), and an operating profit of DKK 13 mn (USD 2.3 mn).

Leo Pharma's divestment is part of a strategy to focus on human healthcare products in its two core areas: dermatology and critical care. Ernst Lunding, managing director of Leo Pharma says the company is very satisfied that it now will be able to concentrate 100% on its core businesses.

LEO Animal Health develops and markets veterinary medicines and dietary foods, as well as care products for the treatment of skin, ear and eye diseases in cats and dogs.
