Cisco Systems, the worldwide leader in networking for the internet, has acquired Kiss Technology, a Danish developer and manufacturer of DVD players, through its subsidiary Linksys for DKK 374 mn (USD 61 mn). The Linksys division is a provider of VoIP, wireless and networking hardware for home, SOHO and small business users.

Charles Giancarlo, chief technology officer of Cisco and president of Cisco-Linksys comments on the acquisition: "Kiss has emerged as a leader in networked video and audio products in Europe and we hope to use that expertise to expand worldwide". In-Stat, a market research firm, estimates that by 2009 networked entertainment devices will be used on more than 38% of home networks.

Kiss Technology was founded in 1994 and is based in Hørsholm, north of Copenhagen. The Danish firm is a leading technology provider of networked entertainment products, and has a portfolio which includes home video products such as networked DVD players and DVD recorders. The news is reported by financial daily newspaper Børsen and on the Kiss Technology website.
