New figures from the US credit card company MasterCard show that Danes are now spending an average DKK 1,200 (USD 192) each time they shop on the internet, a 91% increase compared to 2004. The record breaking data comes from MasterCard's calculations of how 350,000 of its customers in 24 countries use their MasterCard or Maestro card.

Not surprisingly, Danish internet shops are also doing well. They were ranked 5th in the league of countries earning most from internet shopping. Morten Kamper, director of FDIH which organises the Danish internet companies comments: "Danish net shops are well prepared because we have been online for a long time, so we have a technological lead".

Buying airline tickets, hotel accommodation and package holidays account for a good part of the cash spent on the internet using international payment cards says Morten Kamper.

Figures from PBS (Payment Business Services) in Denmark, also show continued growth in Danes' internet shopping when the Danish payment card Dankort is calculated together with international credit cards such as MasterCard. The news is reported by national daily newspaper Politiken.
