Microsoft plans to expand its development centre in Vedbæk, Denmark, and increase the number of staff considerably, Steve Ballmer, CEO of Microsoft, stated during a brief visit to Denmark: "We have large ambitions and great objectives. Our team in Denmark is capable, and we want to extend and nurture it", he said.

In 2002, Microsoft acquired the Danish company Navision based in Vedbæk north of Copenhagen for USD 1.76 billion (approx. DKK 11 billion), the second most expensive acquisition in Microsoft's history up to that time. The Vedbæk facility is Microsoft's largest development centre outside its Seattle HQ.

Earlier this year, Klaus Holse Andersen, director of Microsoft Business Solutions (MBS) in Vedbæk, revealed in an interview that the Danish development centre aims to become a world leading development centre for company software in five years. The news is reported by national daily newspaper Jyllands-Posten.
