Vækstforum Nordjylland, an organisation set up to prepare a business development strategy for the region, proposes that DKK 28.8 mn (USD 4.6 mn) of a governmental grant of DKK 200 mn (USD 32 mn) is spent on 4G mobile telephony development. The aim is to maintain and further develop northern Jutland's position in wireless communication technology.

Vækstforum Nordjylland has earmarked DKK 54.8 mn (USD 8.8 mn) of the DKK 200 mn (USD 32 mn) grant for high tech and special growth capital in the region. The government will take the final decision on how the DKK 200 mn (USD 32 mn) is allocated, but Orla Hav, chairman of Vækstforum Nordjylland, says he expects the proposals will be accepted. It is expected that 5,000 new jobs will be created as a result. The news was reported by ComOn.

Aalborg in northern Jutland recently hosted the first International Wireless Summit (IWS 2005), which was attended by senior executives from some of the world's largest technology companies such as Nokia, Samsung, Siemens and Intel together with key university researchers who discussed a number of areas including 4G telephony.
