New figures from PBS, a Danish payment card operator, show a 67% increase in the number of card payments in Danish internet shops in 2004

New figures from PBS, a Danish payment card operator, show a 67% increase in the number of card payments in Danish internet shop in 2004. In total, there were 13.5 million card payments compared to 8.1 million in 2003. Online sales have not however increased correspondingly due to a decrease in the average value of individual transactions.

Online network Tradedoubler has reported a 250% increase in the number of sales transactions from its members' websites, while the average transaction value has decreased by 35%. Simon Goldschmidt, director at Tradedoubler says the decrease indicates that consumers are more used to shopping on the internet and thus also use their payment cards for small purchases. In addition, online products have been extended to include smaller value products and accessories. The news is reported by business newspaper Erhvervsbladet.
