Thrane & Thrane, a Danish technology company specialising in satellite communication products, is one of four companies supplying terminals for Inmarsat-4, the first of three satellites which was recently launched. Inmarsat-4 is the 4th generation satellite from the UK company Inmarsat. With a weight of 6 tons, it is the largest commercial communication satellite ever launched.

 

The purpose of the satellites is to supply Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN) by the end of 2005, making it possible to access a broadband internet connection anywhere in the world. Thrane & Thrane will supply the terminals needed on the ground in order to connect to the net via the new satellite system. The Danish company also has a DKK 460 mn contract to supply the systems which route the signals from Inmarsat-4 into networks such as the Internet or the GSM mobile net. The news is reported by ComputerWorld.

 

Thrane & Thrane is a world leading manufacturer of terminals and land earth stations for global mobile satellite and radio communication. The company was founded in 1981 and has since established a strong position in global mobile satellite services based on the Inmarsat system. Thrane & Thrane is listed on Copenhagen Stock Exchange.
