US company Wayport acquires Danish internet provider NetPoint

NetPoint, a Copenhagen based provider of high-speed internet access from hotspots and hotel rooms, has been acquired by the US broadband provider Wayport for approx. DKK 60 mn (USD 10.2 mn). Wayport is based in Austin, Texas, and delivers high-speed Wi-Fi wireless and wired internet access to travellers in airports and hotels as well as to 4,500 McDonald's restaurants.

Dave Vucina, group chief executive of Wayport says the possible synergies between NetPoint and Wayport makes NetPoint into an ideal partner which can be used to expand Wayport's business in Europe and the Middle East. "With Wayport's leading position in North America and NetPoint's leading position in Europe and the Middle East, we can offer hotel chains and other strategic customers a global solution, and give their customers an international internet experience", Dave Vucina comments.

NetPoint has 125 hotel chains among its customers including Accor/Sofitel, Mercure, Ibis, First, Hilton, Park Inn, Radisson SAS, Remmen and Scandic. The news is reported by financial daily newspaper Børsen.
