Denmark's Vestas Wind Systems, the world's largest wind turbine manufacturer, has gained an order for 30 V80-2.0 MW wind turbines for five projects in France. The order has been placed by four French project companies in collaboration with Volkswind France SARL. It comprises supply and commissioning of the turbines as well as a monitoring system. According to national daily newspaper Jyllands-Posten, the order is reckoned to be worth approx. DKK 420 m (USD 67.2 m).
Ebbe Funk, managing director of Vestas Mediterranean West comments: "Vestas has installed more than 1,200 V80-2.0 MW turbines, and this order confirms the competitiveness of this type of wind turbine on the French market". Delivery of the turbines will begin in spring 2006, and commissioning of the wind power plants is scheduled for summer 2006.
Vestas Wind Systems has installed more than 26,000 wind turbines in more than 50 countries worldwide. The company employs 9,600 people and has production facilities in Denmark, Germany, India, Italy, UK, Spain, Sweden, Norway and Australia. In 2004, Vestas Wind Systems generated revenues of DKK 19.1 bn (USD 3.3 bn). The news was reported by daily broadsheet Jyllands-Posten and on Vestas' website.
