Zepto Computers, a Nordic company producing laptop computers on a built-to-order concept, is closing down its production in Norway and Sweden and concentrating all its activities in Denmark. Zepto Computers in Denmark recently moved to new and bigger premises in Hedehusene close to Copenhagen, which will be the new company headquarters from the beginning of 2006.

Lasse Frost, managing director of Zepto Computers in Denmark says that in these outsourcing times it may sound the wrong way round to concentrate production in Denmark: "If we placed our production in China where 95% of all the world's laptops are built, it would take three to four months until the products reach consumers. But by producing in Denmark, we can deliver in just a few days."

Prices of components are dropping by 10-15% a month and with a short response time in Denmark, Zepto can exploit this. Lasse Frost also points out that on average it only takes six minutes to assemble a computer in the company's new Danish factory, and that wages are thus not an issue.

In the Danish division of Zepto Computers revenues are estimated to reach DKK 100 m (USD 16 m) in 2005 compared to DKK 53 m (USD 8.5 m) last year. The news was reported by financial daily newspaper Børsen.
