AM3D, a Danish audio development company based in Aalborg, northern Jutland, has entered an agreement with one of the world's largest mobile phone manufacturers to supply 3D audio technology. AM3D has developed and patented a 3D audio technology based on research conducted at the University of Aalborg. Sven Vestergaard, managing director of AM3D, has declined to disclose the name of the mobile phone manufacturer, but says:

"We reckon that we will sell 20 million licences this year, which naturally means a lot for our finances and we expect a sizeable surplus." AM3D supplies the technology as well as consultancy on necessary adjustments in earphones and positioning of the speakers in the mobile phones.

AM3D's audio technology is currently being implemented in Danish F-16 fighter aircraft, and the company has also entered an agreement for the Joint Strike Fighter project. AM3D is part of AM Production, a producer of multimedia technologies, and Nordjyske Holding, a group with a long tradition in media technologies and their applications. The news was reported by ComputerWorld.
