The Allerød based firm of Burmeister & Wain Scandinavian Contractor (BWSC) has gained a DKK 300 m (USD 51 m) contract to build a biomass-fuelled power plant in Cardiff, Wales. Although BWSC has considerable experience in the alternative energy area, this is the first time the company has taken on the construction of a biomass plant, which will be built in collaboration with Aalborg Energie Technik.

BWSC's foray into a new area of expertise holds no fears for director Søren Barkholt, who sees the contract as a natural forward step for BWSC: "We are used to building power plants of every possible kind. The only difference is the primary fuel source," he says.

Besides being a world-leading turnkey contractor and operator of medium and large diesel engine based power systems, BWSC is actively involved in projects for selected renewable and waste-to-energy technologies. The company’s experience and expertise ranges from plant design to rehabilitation, operation, maintenance, and financing.
