Columbus IT, a Danish firm headquartered near Copenhagen, is the first company to put Microsoft Dynamics AX 4.0, the next version of the originally Danish developed Axapta ERP* solution, into operation. Microsoft has scheduled Microsoft Dynamics AX 4.0 for launch in July. Columbus IT has been involved in testing the new version at Microsoft Dynamics' location in Vedbæk, north of Copenhagen, for almost a year.

John T. Hummelgaard, sales and marketing director at Columbus IT says: "The new thing is that Microsoft has let us dealers implement the new version at a test customer. And we are now also using the system ourselves, and are in the process of implementing it at one of our large Axapta customers." Bjarne Riis, sales director at Microsoft emphasises that Columbus has been given a lead position with Dynamics AX 4.0 because the Danish partner has the longest and broadest experience with Axapta.

Axapta was part of Microsoft's 2002 acquisition of the Danish company Navision for USD 1.76 billion (approx. DKK 11 billion), the second most expensive acquisition in Microsoft's history up to that time. The Microsoft Vedbæk facility employs 850 people and is for the moment still Microsoft's largest development centre outside of Redmond, WA. The news was reported by financial daily newspaper Børsen.
