Alphalyse, an Odense-based biotech company, is to participate in a prestigious EU research project concerning pulmonary hypertension, a life-threatening lung disease. Alphalyse's role will be to identify proteins which can be used for early diagnosis and treatment. The entire project has been assigned a DKK 84 m (USD 13.4 m) budget, of which Alphalyse can expect a DKK 3 m (USD 480,000 m) share.

Alphalyse's MD Thomas Kofoed comments: "We now have the opportunity to collaborate with some of the leading research institutions in Europe, at the same time as gaining economic resources to further develop our analyses."

Last year Alphalyse was the subject of an MBO from parent company Ace Biosciences, the latter wishing to concentrate more on vaccine development. Alphalyse has recently entered an agreement with VWR International, one of the world's leading suppliers of equipment to laboratories. As a result, Alphalyse's Pick'n'Post protein identification service will be promoted by VWR's 120-strong sales force in Europe, as well as its sales force in the US. Alphalyse is opening an office in Montreal to receive samples for analysis from North American customers. The news was reported by financial daily newspaper Børsen.

Alphalyse A/S provides proteomic services and solutions to the life science research community on a fee-for-service basis. The technology platform and expertise at Alphalyse is based on state-of-the-art mass spectrometry integrated in the laboratory with protein chemistry and bioinformatics tools. In addition to its Pick'nPost service, Alphalyse also provides protein characterisation, biomarker discovery and partnering opportunities.
