Danish contractor wins order for world’s third largest offshore wind farm

Aalborg based Bladt Industries wins an order to supply a substation to the world's third largest offshore wind farm, Q7 in the Netherlands

Hot on the heels of an order for an offshore substation for Sweden's Lillgrund wind farm, Aalborg based Bladt Industries A/S has now landed another order, this time for the Q7 wind farm in the Netherlands. Q7 is the world’s third largest offshore wind farm, and Bladt Industries will be the turnkey contractor of the new substation, providing design, instrumentation and fabrication of the platform, as well as a complete test of functionality. The project is slated for completion in Q1 2008.

The Q7 wind farm is being built 23 kilometres offshore from Ijmuiden in the Netherlands. It will comprise sixty wind turbines supplied by Denmark's Vestas, each with a 2 MW capacity . The total weight of the substation will be 650 tons. Bladt Industries' MD Peter Rindebæk comments: “This is a quite demanding assignment, because of the many disciplines to co-ordinate and control. But with the know-how and experience that our employees have, the assignment is within our qualifications.”

Bladt Industries specialises in manufacturing of large complex steel structures, and has extensive quayside facilities to provide logistic and technical flexibility. The company's main business areas are the wind turbine industry and the oil and gas industry, both onshore and offshore. In 2005 Bladt Industries generated a turnover of DKK 243 m (USD 41.3 m).
