EU grants multimillion sum to research project headed by Aalborg University

An international consortium headed by Aalborg University has been granted DKK 80 m from the EU's sixth framework programme for a research project in mobile communication

An international consortium headed by Aalborg University has been granted DKK 80 m (USD 12.8 m) from the EU's sixth framework programme for a research project in mobile communication. Magnet Beyond is a continuation of the Magnet project and involves 32 companies, universities and research institutions from 15 countries in Europe and Asia.

Magnet Beyond was officially started up on Monday 9 January at the Danish Embassy in Berlin. Ramjee Prasad, Professor and Director of the Center for TeleInFrastruktur (CTIF) at Aalborg University comments: "Magnet Beyond is at the cutting edge of research in wireless communication and network technology and will pave the way for the development of 4G".

The Center for Information and Communication Technologies (CICT) at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) is among the project participants. Knud Erik Skouby, Professor and Director of CICT says: "Magnet Beyond is an important strengthening of research in mobile communication in Denmark. The two leading environments, CTIF at Aalborg University and CICT at DTU complement each other and have close collaboration. Magnet Beyond will result in further qualification and development of this collaboration". The news was reported by Comon and the professional journal Ingeniøren (The Engineer).
