Milestone Systems, a Danish producer of digital software for video surveillance cameras, is establishing a presence in Japan where the market is expected to grow significantly in the coming years. The company has entered distribution agreement with KT Workshop in Tokyo.

Currently, only 5% of video surveillance cameras sold in Japan are digital, but that figure is expected to surge to 90% over the next 5 years. Japan is the second largest market worldwide for video surveillance cameras.

Director Lars Thinggaard of Milestone Systems comments: "Japanese manufacturers are trying to squeeze the maximum out of the analogue video surveillance cameras they make, for as long as possible. But the global technology trend is swinging towards digital solutions."

Milestone Systems has 10,000 customers in 60 countries, with a 16% share of the global market and a 38% share of the European market. Milestone has no customers as yet in Japan, where Panasonic and the Swedish company Axis currently have the lion's share of the market. The news was reported by financial daily newspaper Børsen.
