The Danish Agency for Science, Technology and Innovation has granted DKK 12.8 m for the establishment of a new innovation consortium, BioEnCap

The Danish Agency for Science, Technology and Innovation has granted DKK 12.8 m (USD 2.2 m) for the establishment of a new innovation consortium, BioEnCap, which aims to develop methods for encapsulating and releasing bioactive molecules in order to create more efficient drugs with fewer side effects.

Anne Maria Hansen, centre director of the Danish Technological Institute, which is part of the consortium, says: "There is a need for more orally administered drugs and we expect results from food research can be used in the development of pharmaceutical products. In the food ingredient industry there is great interest in encapsulation and controlled release of bioactive substances with a health enhancing effect. Future progress is thus expected to happen at the interface between pharmaceutical and food technological research and development."

The consortium comprises the Danish Technological Institute, the Danish University of Pharmaceutical Sciences, SanosBioscience, Egalet, Novozymes, Fertin Pharma and Fef Chemicals. The news was reported by professional journal Ingeniøren (The Engineer).
