Denmark's Novozymes will make enzymes for bioethanol production into its second largest focus area

Denmark's Novozymes will make enzymes for bioethanol production into its second largest focus area. The company's largest business area is enzymes for washing powder production. Novozymes has just published its H1 results which show a 21% growth in revenues for other technical enzymes which include enzymes for bioethanol, also know as fuel ethanol in the US.

Novozymes plans to increase efforts in R&D, customer service and marketing in the bioethanol business area. It will continue to focus on development of new products for 1G technology (starch-based bioethanol), and will also be highly involved in projects and processes for 2G technology (biomass-based ethanol). "The aim is to be able to design the most optimal enzyme solution for the final technology", Novozymes writes in its H1 report.

Poul Ruben Andersen, responsible for Novozymes' marketing to the fuel industry says: "There is such a lot happening so rapidly, that one of our greatest challenges is to keep up with it." The news was reported by national daily newspaper Berlingske Tidende and on Novozymes' website.

Novozymes is the biotech-based world leader in enzymes and microorganisms. Headquartered in Bagsværd near Copenhagen, the company employs 4,000 people, half of whom are employed in Denmark. Novozymes' 700 products are a key factor in the production of thousands of products used in everyday life. The company's B shares are listed on Copenhagen Stock Exchange.
