Thrane & Thrane, a Danish company specialising in satellite communication products has entered an extension contract with UK's Inmarsat, a leading provider of global mobile satellite communication, to upgrade the company's Satellite Access Stations to handle planned broadband services for ships, aircraft and vehicles. The extension contract is thought to be worth approx. DKK 53 m (USD 8.5 m) to Thrane & Thrane.

In a press release Thrane & Thrane also reveals that it plans to initiate development of new broadband terminals for ships, aircraft and vehicles which will be marketed when Inmarsat launches its new services. Thrane & Thrane's terminals will be smaller and lighter than currently and will offer users data speeds and applications beyond what is possible today. The news was reported by Ingeniøren (The Engineer) and on the Thrane & Thrane website.

Thrane & Thrane is a world leading manufacturer of terminals and land earth stations for global mobile satellite and radio communication. The company was founded in 1981 and has since established a strong position in global mobile satellite services based on the Inmarsat system. Thrane & Thrane is listed on Copenhagen Stock Exchange.
